About
Why Aten School exists
Aten School began as the school one family set out to build for its own children.
How it started
The family wanted a school that works in every subject, not only the core ones; that keeps an honest record of what each child has actually mastered, rather than what they have sat through; and that lets a parent or tutor teach well without being a specialist in all eleven subjects.
That became the design for Aten School: its own curriculum, written objective by objective, a script for every lesson, and a record of evidence behind every decision.
Where it is going
Aten School is an American education company building a school for children anywhere in the world. Ghana is the first localisation: the first family learns there, and its lessons use Ghana’s money, places and context. Other countries follow the same way, as new maps on the same curriculum.
What is true today
Aten School is not open to other families yet. The curriculum for Stage 3 and Stage 5 is being written and reviewed lesson by lesson, and the app that runs lessons and keeps records is being built. We will say when that changes, and not before it does.
Principles we build by
- A person approves every lessonNo lesson reaches a child until a person has reviewed it.
- A person decides masterySoftware keeps the record. The decision belongs to the adult with the child.
- Each child’s record is privateA family sees its own child’s work, one child at a time.
- Recording needs consentA child’s voice or video is recorded only with a parent’s active consent.
- Original lessonsLessons are written for Aten School, never copied from books or other curricula.
- The same quality for every childWhat a family pays for can change how lessons are delivered, never how good they are.
